Preserving Voices.
Sharing Stories.
Strengthening Community.

The Bartlesville Cultural Center is dedicated to preserving the voices and lived experiences that shape our community.

Through oral history projects, community storytelling, and cultural programming, we document the people, moments, and traditions that make up the living history of Bartlesville. From longtime residents to families whose journeys brought them here from around the world, these stories help connect our past to our future.

Today, the Center serves as a gathering place where community memory, cultural identity, and civic life come together.

OUR ROOTS & RENEWAL

Preserving the Heart of West Bartlesville

For generations, the Westside Community Center served as an important gathering place for families and youth in West Bartlesville. Its legacy represents resilience, community pride, and the power of shared spaces.

In 2024, after a period of closure, new leadership stepped forward with a vision to restore and expand that legacy. The organization reopened with renewed purpose, reconnecting the community and reestablishing the organization as a place where stories, culture, and civic engagement could thrive.

As the work has grown, the organization has evolved into the Bartlesville Cultural Center, reflecting a broader commitment to documenting the diverse stories that shape our city while continuing to honor the deep African American roots of West Bartlesville.

Programs &
Community Initiatives

Supporting cultural preservation, community connection, and neighborhood revitalization in West Bartlesville.

Oral History & Cultural Preservation

The Cultural Center documents and preserves the stories that shaped Bartlesville through oral history interviews, storytelling projects, and community archiving. This work highlights the lived experiences of residents whose voices have often gone undocumented, including African American families connected to West Bartlesville and immigrant communities tied to the zinc smelter era.

Youth Leadership & Education

Through leadership development, storytelling projects, and civic learning initiatives, youth gain the tools to understand their community, develop confidence, and contribute to the future of Bartlesville. Young people participate in programs that encourage leadership, public speaking, and community engagement.

Cultural Experiences &
Community Programs

The Cultural Center hosts programs that bring residents together through shared experiences that celebrate culture, creativity, and community life. Events such as Mix, Mingle & Mocktails, Taste of Community, cultural fitness classes, and seasonal gatherings create opportunities for residents to connect, learn from one another, and build stronger relationships across neighborhoods.

Neighborhood Revitalization & Community Development

As activity returns to West Bartlesville, the Cultural Center is helping reintroduce the neighborhood as a place of pride, history, and opportunity. Through community partnerships, neighborhood initiatives, and projects such as the community garden and local events, the Center encourages residents and visitors to reconnect with and invest in this historic part of the city.

Community Engagement & Impact

CULTURAL PRESERVATION

The Living Archive

Residents across West Bartlesville are sharing their stories through recorded oral history interviews that document family histories, neighborhood memories, and the experiences of communities connected to the zinc smelter era. These stories are becoming part of a growing public archive that preserves voices often missing from traditional historical records.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP

Civic Voices

Students and young leaders participate in storytelling and civic learning initiatives that help them understand their community's history while building the confidence to engage in public dialogue. Youth contribute to documenting stories, participating in discussions, and learning how civic life shapes their city.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Community Cultural Experiences

Programs such as Mix, Mingle & Mocktails, Taste of Community, cultural wellness activities, and community garden gatherings create opportunities for residents to come together, build relationships, and celebrate the diverse cultures that shape Bartlesville.

Neighborhood Revitalization

West Bartlesville Revitalization

Beyond programming, the Cultural Center is working with community partners and local leaders to strengthen the long term future of West Bartlesville. These efforts include encouraging new business activity, supporting quality retail and food options, and advocating for neighborhood investment, renovation, and affordable housing that allows families to remain rooted in the community.

Just as importantly, we are working to restore a sense of pride in the neighborhood. We want people to visit West Bartlesville, support its businesses, invest in its future, and speak about the area with confidence. For generations, families have lived, worked, and built their lives here. Our goal is to help ensure that the neighborhood reflects the strength of the people who call it home.
